Terms of Reference and Membership of the
Maritimes Region RAP Coordination Committee
The RAP Coordination Committee is responsible for the coordination of the RAP. To this end, it:
- Identifies the issues to be addressed, establishes the work agenda and schedule, and monitors
the activities of RAP.
Provides an editorial service for the status reports and proceedings
to ensure readership and consistency of style. Provides a forum for the review of
research recommendations generated by the RAP and dialogue on those issues that require priority
attention. Recommendations of a regional nature are forwarded to regional line managers and those with
zonal implications are submitted to the Canadian Stock Assessment Secretariat (CSAS).
The Coordination Committee is chaired by the RAP Coordinator, who reports to the Maritimes Regional
Director of Science. There is a memorandum of understanding to provide RAP services to the Gulf Fisheries
Management Region. It has, as members, Science and Oceans Division Managers, Regional Directors of
Science, Fisheries Management, and Economics from both regions, the Regional Director of the Oceans Branch
(Maritimes), the CSAS Coordinator, and regional delegates as appointed by the RAP Coordinator. Chairs of
RAP review meetings and other participants are invited to meetings as required.
The Coordination Committee meets at least twice per year and as required.
The RAP Secretariat maintains minutes of RAP Coordinating Committee and Editorial Board meetings. In the
case of the former, they are distributed to the RAP Coordination Committee and other meeting participants
who are given one month to provide information on errors or omissions. Editorial Board minutes are provided
to the meeting participants as soon as possible after completion of the meeting, and again, one month is
allowed to provide information on errors or omissions.
