The Office of Naval Research coordinates, executes, and promotes the science and technology programs of the United States Navy and Marine Corps through schools, universities, government laboratories, and nonprofit and for-profit organizations.
The Ocean Sciences Division investigates the effect of ocean climate variability on the productivity of living aquatic resources and the role of the ocean in the global climate system. They develop the Department's capacity to use modern technologies to determine and interpret oceanographic features.
