Coastal Hydrodynamics Modelling
Image of the bathymetry of the Scotian Shelf and Gulf of Maine

Hydrographic and circulation variability on the continental shelf and in coastal embayments is an important factor to various fisheries, climate, environmental impacts, pollution and marineoperations issues.

Scientists in the Coastal Ocean Sciences Section are collaborating in the description, understanding and prediction of hydrodynamics variability and its influences in various parts of the northwestern Atlantic and Arctic coastal oceans. The investigations are using finite-element numerical hydrodynamics models together with various analysis methods to interpret and synthesize observational data. Current activities are focussed on the Scotian and Newfoundland Shelves, Georges Bank, Laurentian Channel, Halifax Harbour, Passamaquoddy Bay and the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.
